  • You’re looking for a therapist that will be the best fit for you. In short, I believe I am a good fit for clients who are seeking to improve their overall wellbeing, especially in their relationships, and for clients who would like to experience greater connection with their emotions.

Please read more on my about me and services pages.

  • Confidentiality is of utmost to me as a mental health professional. It is vitally important that everything you share in counseling, with few exceptions, remains in counseling. This complies with the laws and ethics regulating the counseling profession.

Read more about How HIPAA Protects You to understand how I work to make sure therapy is as safe as possible.

  • What happens if I cancel or need to reschedule?

Please cancel/reschedule more than 24 hours in advance to avoid a fee. If you’re away for a planned event (like a vacation), we can adjust in session ahead of time without penalty.

What happens if I miss multiple sessions in a row?

Frequent absences disrupt progress. If you miss 3 or more sessions within 60 days, I may recommend a pause in therapy to ensure equitable access for others. I seek to prevent unnecessary financial gain at client expense, so I do not seek to merely collect cancelation/no-show fees. This policy is discussed in the informed consent paperwork prior to our initial session.

Do you offer telehealth therapy sessions? How do they work?

Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth through Simple Practice to clients physically located in Missouri on a limited basis. Please find a safe, secure location from which to join the session.

Telehealth is used as an emergency only (e.g., car accident or bad weather), and I do not see telehealth-only clients.

Can I communicate with you between sessions?

I welcome logistical messages (e.g., scheduling, billing), but not clinical content between sessions. For urgent concerns, see my Resources page and we’ll follow up in session.

The 988 hotline is helpful for crises, or you may call 911 in case of an emergency.

  • What should I know about the process and progress of therapy?

It is important to know what you're getting into when you enroll in therapy. I've written a post here which provides more information.

What else about you will help me make an informed decision?

I have written a post "What to Expect in Therapy" , describing additional questions about therapy to help you make the best decision for yourself.

What are your fees? Do you accept insurance? How do I pay?

Check the services page regarding fees and insurance or contact info@hourglasskc.com for details regarding insurance.

What if you do not accept my insurance?

If I do not accept your insurance, Hourglass Counseling & Wellness has other clinicians who may. You can visit our website here or email info@hourglasskc.com to inquire.

What if I can't afford therapy?

Hourglass offers reduced-fee options through our internship program. Visit our intern profiles here or contact info@hourglasskc.com to inquire.

    Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a counselor, I cannot prescribe medications. I can provide referrals to psychiatric providers if needed.

Can I take medication while in therapy?

Yes, therapy and medication can completement each other. Please avoid substances that cause intoxication before sessions (e.g., benzodiazepines or opioids), as this may interfere with therapy or raise ethical concerns. If you are struggling with addiction and would like to quit, I am able to treat these concerns or provide referrals to agencies in the community that can provide robust care.
