Getting Started with Therapy
If you’re dealing with stress, mental health concerns, or relationship struggles, therapy may be a helpful next step. Therapy can support you to finding your own path toward a more fulfilling life, healthier relationships, and living as your true self.
You may be feeling anxious—after all, it is a big life change and a big risk you’re thinking about taking! My professor frequently says, “If you’re feeling anxious, it may mean that learning is about to happen.” I believe this also applies to healing and growth. If you’re feeling anxious, I encourage you to take the plunge and schedule an intake session. That first step begins the process of building rapport, which will likely help ease your anxiety.
Preparing for your first therapy session may mean confronting the anxiety I discussed earlier. Reading about therapy may be an effective way to reduce anxiety. If you’d like to learn more about my approach, feel free to visit my about me page. You can also prepare by reflecting on the concerns you’d like to address.
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer questions you may have about therapy and to see if we’re a good fit. If you decide to schedule, you’ll complete intake paperwork through our secure platform, including legal forms and brief questionnaires about your concerns.
The first therapy session with me will cover intake information. This is for me to learn about what you’re experiencing, provide more information about therapy, and answer any lingering questions you have. A major part of this session is getting to know each other and beginning to build a strong, supportive relationship—because feeling safe and comfortable in therapy is a vital part of what supports healing.
I truly believe in the healing capacity of therapy, and I want you to know that my own journey with therapy is what led to me become a therapist! You’re not alone in this process.
